I have been looking for work for a few months now. I had posted a resume on Monsters.com but other than that had been looking at jobs on craigslist.
I received an email the other day that stated this:
Hello,
Are you looking for a part time Job? Can you do something apart from your
current job? Are you available to run errands? I am looking for someone who can
handle my personal and business errands at his/her spare time. Someone who can
offer me these services: Mail services: Receive my mails and drop them off at
UPS (nothing illegal).
Shop for Gifts Sit for delivery (at your home) or pick items up at near by post
office at your convenience. Let me know if you will be able to offer me any of
these services.

I emailed him back that I was interested in part time work and would do this job for him if he could give me a phone number and a time that was best to call him. I also asked him how he got my email address.
This was his response:

When you get my mails/packages; you are required to mail them to where I want them mailed to. You don't have to put money out of your pocket, all you have to do is have packages shipped to your house and do my shopping. You are allowed to open the packages to reveal its content. The content of the packages are computer and electronics, clothings business and personal letters.

Okay, he is asking me where I am located... Big red flag. So, I email him back telling him that if he has a shipper number with UPS which I worked for over 7 years with and told him that his needs for an address, shipping place could be resoved at any UPS store and that he could probably do it over the phone. I explained that I would not be giving out my physical address, phone number or any personal information to a complete stranger who A: doesn't know where I'm located, B: wouldn't even answer how he got my email address, and told him my age was irrelvant. As for shopping for him and prepaying me for it, I told him that I would only except payments thru paypal or my debit card as they cannot take money out of it with a deposit form that my card provides to protect against such frauds. Another tip was the one error in his last sentances, "hope to read from you as soon as possible."
This was his response to that:

Since you are not comfortable to receive cheque or money order from our client, the other way you can receive money from our client is throught credit card. If our client have to send money direct into your credit card you will have to provide a credit card details that dose not have money inside, I believe it faster and convince. One more thing, I am currently in Australia and we got your email from search engine. Please I would like to know if you can handle this, on till we meet in May next year.
Below is the information you are to furnish me. Once I receive these information from you I will have it forwarded to my client to transfer the money into you credit card so that you can resume work immediately.

Ps: it will have to be credit card not debit card. Immediately i received the above details from you i will forward it to my client today or tomorrow morning to credit your credit card for your to carry out your first assignment, immediately the money has been transfer i will keep you inform.
Okay, the above email, the english is getting really bad, and also they don't want a debit card, and no mention of paypal, they just want a credit card and all the info needed to use it!
Please be aware of anyone offering you a job that sounds too good to be true and NEVER give out any personal information to these scammers. They need to be stopped. Also, I had put the wrong email address for him as his hotmail address was phume1949... And I had actually googled Paul Hume and it is some dead guy... So, there were no reports of this scam from this email, cuz I googled the email as well.
After this experience, I was telling my friend about it as she hunts for work on the internet and had answered an ad for a job for a care giver for this guy's grandmother, he sent her a cashiers check for $3000 from London, UK asking her to deposit it and send him $300 of it back so he could send his grandmother... Same email address, same name. Two months later, he emailed and treatened to send the FBI to her house because he didn't get the money. She told him she didn't cash it because it was fake. She told him, go ahead and send the FBI, I am here and fine... So don't worry.
Watch out for Paul Hume.
Thanks and hope this gets out there. Even though he will change the email address and name which I am sure are totally fake. Just want to get the Job offer scams and all email address associated with them out there. Careful about putting in for jobs on the internet and expecially craigslist.
