Price Gouging

I've been a credit card holder with Banana Republic since 2004 and have been shopping their chain since 1991. I've had several minor issues with the store in the past but nothing that I was not able to over look. On Oct. 16th my daughter turned 16th. She shopped around for a pair of boots and came across one on Piperlime.com (a branch of Banana Republic) that she really liked; nude footwear Alaska for $199 on sale for $149. She has been watching this pair of boots for weeks and decided that she'd like me to make the purchase for her. On 10/26 I added the boots to my shopping cart and did not attempt to complete my purchase until 10/27. I then noticed that the price as since changed from: orig price; $199 and sale price listed as $215. I immediately picked up the phone and called customer service and explain the situation. I spoke to Kelly, very nice gentleman by the way and he told me that there was an error, the price is $149. He attempted to complete my purchase but apparently his system would not accept the $149 price. He then put me on hold to speak to his supervisor - per his supervisor, the orig. Price is $215 and sale is $199. I said wow! How could this be... Your orig price for the longest has been $199 marked down to $215. Long story short, they would not honor the $149. I was told that I'd have to pay the $199. I refused. I called BR to explain the situation, as I was putting the purchase on my card and again talked to a very nice gentleman. He apologized and told me that he was able to help me as he works in billing but that a sales rep should be able to make an adjustment. I was transferred to a lady (forget her name) but she was totally clueless! She listened to my story said nothing then said "how can I help you"? I said I'd like to close my card if the $149 price cannot be honored. She then attempted to transfer me back to the credit card dept then came back on the line and said "what is it you'd like me to do?" I then got cut off. I called back got a lady in the credit dept. Asked to have my card closed. She pulled up my acc and said to me, do you know that you'll lose over 900 points if you closed out your acc? I said that's ok, as your policy is less than acceptable. Now for $50 BR was happy to lose a customer who spends THOUSANDS of dollars in their store and online. I spend at least $700 every other month in their store... They'll never see that again. I'm off to shop JCrew.
