I was shopping for rain boots on 34 Street and the salesman named "Madar" offered his help. I chose a pair and he came back with a different pair because my original choice was not in stock in my size. I reluctantly tried on the boots and told him they fit but I did not prefer lace up boots. He said "you'll get used to them."
I chose another pair to try on that had no price marked on them. The store was having a "crazy sale" and all the shoes and boots were marked with a price and "crazy sale - 50% off" EXCEPT the Merrill line of boots.
Nevertheless, I tried on a pair of Merrills and said I wanted them, but since the price was not marked, I told him, "how does the customer know what the price really is with the 50% off deal, but no price tag?" He said the price of the boots was $180 and "you have to trust me." I said, how about I go to another store and see what this same pair of boots cost?"
He became annoyed and said "I don't want to waste my time." I said I'm the customer and isn't your job to assist me? He fled to another part of the store and I departed.
The Shoemania on Madison and 43rd Street had the same pair for $150, and all the Merrill line of boots had the prices clearly marked, along with the "50% off - crazy sale" stickers. So I purchased them and saved myself the difference.
When I later phoned the Shoemania on 34th Street the person who answered the phone hung up on me, then when I phoned again she put a man on who gave his name as "Sammy Yammy." I told him about his sales rep named Maadar and he claimed no one worked there by that name. He then became sarcastic so I hung up.
BEWARE of the 34th Street Shoemania in Manhattan. The one on Madison Avenue is better.
