My mother had received a $3.41 bill for using the 190 (George Bush) Tollway because they had removed cash booths recently. She was expecting another bill so she waited till she had enough to only send one check for about $18. They did not take payment over the phone and she did not see on-line payment options.
The day she got out her check book was the day she got a bill for over $500 in late fees! NTTA charged her $25.50 per toll for not paying by due date. This was only about 6 weeks time since the first bill. I understand late fees do accure, but over $500 for $18 worth of tolls.
The bill I just received stated if not paid by due date a fee of $2.50 would be charged.
She has called and pleaded... To no avail. If she does not pay soon that amount will double and go to collections and a citation will be issued. She does not have $500. My poor mom in jail for $18 worth of tolls... Really?
She lives paycheck to paycheck so she was leary of NTTA having her credit card on file to charge whenever your balance is under $40. But now that they have totally removed the cash booth option, guess get a toll-tag or don't use a tollway.
(She thinks toll-tags are just another way for big brother to be all in your business on where you drive)
