A few days ago, I posted an ad for selling a PSP with some stuff on Craigslist. The next day, I got an email from someone offering me to ship it to Nigeria for $100 extra. I was interested, as it would be less than $100 to ship it there, so I told them to send me the money via Paypal.
I got an email the next day supposedly from Paypal claiming that I had received the money in my account, but when I looked at the sending address, it was definitely not from Paypal at all. It was from "[email protected]".
It claimed that I needed to send a tracking # to Paypal before I could access the funds, which is not true at all, as it is madness to actually do that. I also checked my Paypal account and the money was not there, nor was there any record of the transaction.
I thankfully knew this was a scam once that all happened, so I did not send them anything. I do not expect authorities to really do anything about it, as they are in Nigeria, but this should hopefully yield a good warning to those who have been offered a good amount of money to ship a product internationally.
