Western Star Auctions
Liars, thieves, cheats

In February I entered into a verbal agreement with this outfit to dispose of a major portion of our household items and garage items. The goods were picked up at no charge to me as agreed on the day agreed to. On arrival, I asked how I would control what would happen to our goods once they left our possession and was advised that each item would be listed as it left the premises. That was almost impossible to do due to the fact that most of the items were in moving boxes. We had just moved 2 weeks prior.

It was agreed that I would list the items as best possible while the employees of the company removed and loaded the goods onto their cube van, with my daughters assistance. A partial inventory was commenced and on completion I again asked what would transpire on arrival back at the place of business. I was assured that each and every item would be properly inventoried and controlled. I also asked if I could be present for that function and was told that would be fine. They were to call me when this was to take place. I waited about a week and still no contact from them so I decided to go over to the location and see what was happening. Much to my surprise they had already auctioned some of our goods and were in the process of numbering the balance as it was removed from the boxes. I explained that I wanted to be present so proper identification of the goods was done and that there were some items that I wished to retain. I was able to retain some of the goods I could think of but not all that I may have.

The goods were auctioned in two different auctions two weeks apart. I was paid for what had been sold (less 40% commision as agreed) and when I asked what was left I was initially told it was all gone. Then the secretary pipes up and says there were a few "stragglers" to be disposed of. I asked what they were and nobody was able to give me an answer. I was then told the balance of the goods were placed on a pallet and sold as a pallet load (without first consulting with me).

I decided to check their list of items sold against my inventory sheets and soon realized there was a huge dicrepency. When I confronted them as to where the items that were provided for sale but were not shown as sold were, no answers were available. Futher checking revealed that over 60 items of varying values had mysteriously disappeared from the time they left the house until the alleged completion of sale of all of the goods. I provided a list in writing and asked the whereabouts of the items in question and was basically told to pound sand.

In a nutshell, if you deal with this outfit use caution. Be sure to get everything in writing and if possible have someone with you when you make any agreements with these people. They are crooks.

I had called the RCMP and they say no crime was committed. I beg to differ! A lawyer I spoke with said it is a theft but the cost to sue was not worth the end result. No use to spend good money after bad... And the bad guy gets away again!!!
