My moving experience with Universe Express was pathetic. They gave me a modest quote (not lowest) based on house visit and we have a binding agreement based on major furniture items and number of boxes allowed. At the day of move, they showed up, packed items as planned and then came up with a totally different price quote, stating that the previous quote given to us had a discount code applied which is not valid today (there was no mention of any discount code given to me before that day). Funny thing is that the paper they gave me with a new quote states that discount is not valid from 26th of that month and my move date was 25th. I asked the same to their owner (Ethan Shia, who also serves as dispatch manager) and he said it's a mis-print and discount is actually not valid even today i.E. 25th of that month. He will simply not take any logic to come to agreed price and insisted on extra charges here & there.
Then they came up with another charge of 'Tape used for packing' for $175. Whereas in my binding agreement they clearly stated that all moving supplies and blankets included in quoted price (they argue, 'tape is not mentioned here'). On any arguement Mr. Ethan Shia threatened to drop off my items and cancel my order. I simply had no other option to agree to higher charges and go with them as my flight to move out of town was already next morning.
Then at drop off location, their driver said that to chk if his semi-truck 18 wheeler is allowed on my street, I checked with my building and also local precient office and both agreed that it is. However, at the day of arrival, driver said he has checked (don't know how) and he cannot bring his truck to my street, it's very narrow. I told him that street is 80' wide and there was a 18 wheeler car trailer here yesterday picking up someone's car from my building. Universe Express driver did not listen to any arguement and said his truck is low ride, it cannot come, I have to pay $300 more for him to rent a smaller truck to bring my stuff or otherwise he's leaving my stuff at the terminal and going away. He refused to listen to any logic or arguement whatsoever. Finally I had to pay that $300 for him to bring my stuff. Since I had to pay cash, I went out to ATM to get money and driver was there at my place with my stuff in less than 20 minutes (there is no truck rental near 15miles of my place). So infact driver never was on a long trailer, otherwise there is no way he could have rented a truck, transferred all my stuff from trailer to U-haul truck and drove it to my place in 20minutes.
Long story short, but experience with Universe Express was simply pathetic. I would not recommend this company to anyone and it's better to stay away.
