Long story short, he came out and bid a job for $16.5k, to which we agreed and signed a contract. As he was framing it up I asked him if he could widen out a portion of it. He said it would be $1800 more. I said fine.
Then he comes 2/3rd into the job being completed and tells me that it is turning into a larger job than he expected and he tells me that although we have a contract and he cannot demand more money, he was wondering if I would be able to help him out and pay $2000 more.
Reluctantly I agreed, and I told him that this was it, the job has now officially cost way more than I anticipated and that we wouldn't have even done the job at the current price. The job was finally completed, we paid everything we agreed to pay ($20.4k) and then a few days later he called wanting even more money! I told him no, our (only) written contract was for $16.5k and I verbally agreed to pay $3800 more over the written contract. I lived up to all my promises. Now he is suing us for $8000!!! Stay far, far away from this guy.
