I ordered a $109.00 adult catcher's helmet for my son on 6/30/09 that was backordered but to be shipped 7/8/09. I put 2 day shipping so we could get it in time for his next tournament. The following day my charge account was charged the $15.74 shipping fee when no item had been shipped. I called and was told that they mailed out a "free "item for purchases over $100 and that they went ahead and charged the shipping and i would not get charged shipping again on the real item ordered.
Problem was the free item was a titanium necklace size small which did not fit either of my sons age 16 and 19 nor anyone we knew so it was a useless item and i threw it out.
I realized on 7/10/09 that the helmet ordered had never come so when i called i found out that it was now backordered until 8/23/09 almost 2 months for the original order date. I was never notified by email or any other means that the backorder date had changed.
I told them I couldn't wait that long so cancel my order. I told them to credit my account the $15.74 shipping.
The company said i had to mail it back to get credit. I explained i was not paying to ship it back when i didnt ask for it and it was useless. They informed me that i would not be credited unless it was mailed back. How a company can charge a person on their account for an item or shipping of that item when it hasnt been mailed is unethical and fraudulent. You also cannot charge a person for a free item that they had no choice that it was sent.
I have ordered alot of baseball equipment from many other campanies and have never had these problems They must make a killing off shipping fees on items cancelled because the backordered date gets moved.
