This company known as Hometown America, also known as MH Financial is indeed the most unethical, ripoff company I have ever dealt with. For the last 3 years, it has been nothing but lies from the very beginning. We bought a new mobile home in 2006 and at first everything was smooth, we got approved immediately, it sounded too good to be true, but the lies and deception started 2 days before we closed.
We were told 2 days before the closing date that we had to have insurance in order to close. We were literally forced to get their insurance, which was very astronomical, and the oddest part is that we never saw any policy papers, nor was our signature in any of the insurance documents. We were also told that we were paid up for the 1st year, which of course was a lie.
This went on for 1 year until we finally found a home insurance company of our own, which is 1/2 the price of the premiums and better coverage. Then, since they also own the mobile home park we live in, of course the monthly lot rent is among the highest in the state and they do not offer a secure environment for the residents or any type of decent amenities for the high price they charge per month for the rent.
Last year in July we were robbed in broad daylight, the perpretator stole our flat screen TV, computer, and other valuables. That particular day 3 other homes were victims of burglary as well. When I reported it to the office management, they did not seem to care.
Also, since Hometown America aka MH Financial is the holder of our mortgage, we are having a very difficult time, I feel we are getting ripped off by them, they will not send me a ledger of my account, and they claim that we are 3 months behind in our mortgage. They treated me in a very demeaning manner and at one time we had paid the lot rent 3 months in advance and they applied it to the mortgage instead. At this point they do not even want to take 1 payment of mortgage, we wrote them a check and the community manager returned it to us. We are trying but I feel they are just letting time pass by so that they can rip us off furthermore. I have tried to work out with them on the phone multiple times but they do not want to work with you. They just want money, money, money! Gimme, gimme!
I have explained to them that they are not my only bill, since they own the mobile home park and also are the mortgage holders, they know my rent is there on the 1st of each month (which is very high), otherwise it would cost me an extra 45 dollars a month, that's above already the high price. If they can cash the rent check, why not take a check for the mortgage? They have a hold on our life, its a total nightmare! And my husband and I thought we were going to enjoy the quiet, relaxing, country life they depict? What a bunch of malarkey that is!
It is a crime to let such a company rip people off their money and most of all their peace of mind!
No wonder there are so many people selling their homes in our community!
Another interesting fact is that recently they relocated some mobile homes from a neighbor park that was sold and everyone had to move their homes out. Well our park brought all these people in... And their lot rent is locked in for life at a fraction of the cost of what we pay! How unfair is that??? To say the least when it comes to choosing people to work in these communities as managers/whatever, Doreen has to be the dumbest of all. And as far as the home office in Chicago, Mr Richard Klein, CEO of the company, open your eyes, your people are NOT doing their job properly.
In the park they give you this so called Rules and Regulations bull... Well more than 1/2 the people do not follow these rules, and yet we get nitpicked because the "bush" in the back, which before they put our home in the park, was always trimmed by the park workers, but now all of a sudden in "mine" needed to be trimmed... Well its taken care of. There are far worse issues that need to be addressed by the management besides an overgrown bush. Like people parking in the streets obstructing traffic, people dealing drugs in one of the houses they brought from the other park... People breaking in houses... Loud teens and kids...
It is very unsettling to know that your life, home, security and peace of mind is at the hands of such evil, unethical and uncaring people as Hometown America AKA MH Financing. Something has to be done about this! I know we are not the only ones who fell into this trap! I hope people think before buying a home from Hometown America!!! It is a living nightmare!!! Believe me if we had known this before hand, we would not have moved in this park and would of never dealt with HOMETOWN AMERICA! Rest assured we will never recommend this company to anyone, not even our worst enemy!!!
