In 2007 we entered our daughter into the New Star Discovery state pageant for the state of Indiana. She was awarded 2nd overall in our state, with the prize of a 2,500.00 savings bond that we still have not recieved. This is a big deal to families all over the United States, but for those of us that took everything out of savings just to get there, this was a slap in the face. It was very important to our family to attend this event.
We spent over 1,500.00 for everything, and worked for months prior trying to get sponsors and sell ads for New Star. It has been stated that Rowdy Adams (the owner) knew before he held all of these state competitions, he would not be able to give out the awards that were earned, yet they were held. I think this is the most horrible thing you can do to families and children. These are savings bonds for school. Not blowing money for parents!
I am so ashamed I ever associated my name to this company and am disappointed the new company (who changed their name from New Star Discovery to New Star Discovery Kids) took on their reputation. They stated to me in an e-mail they did not own the company in 2007 therefore are not responsible for the debt owed. However true this may be it does not stop families from shaming both companies. I hope there is ahuge lesson learned from this event, and I hope no child or family ever has to suffer this disgrace again. There is not ENOUGH done about it and that is sad.
