Superstar Sales
SCAM, teenagers, magazines, subscriptions, children books, trips, vacations, unprofessional

I had two guys, 18-21, come to my door the other day. They looked absolutely casual, one had ripped jeans and piercings and i think even a tattoo. They told me they were selling magazine subscriptions so that they could go on a trip to Spain and all this jazz. I am broke and was very quick to tell them. But this didn't stop the poor kids, they were telling me two stories at once about different things i could do to help them without money. Well i am a fairly experienced sales person so i know this trick. They were trying to confuse me so i would just agree to what they wanted so they would shut up.instead i asked if i could just donate a few bucks to what ever organization they were with and let them be on their way. They were trying to get me to do something with children's books and donations, they were both EXTREMELY vague as to what exactly they were trying to do. The entire time i was at the door with them they were trying to come in and kept asking if they could come sit at a table with me. At one point i had to back from the door a bit to hold my dog back and they took this opportunity to walk into my house and sit at my kitchen table. They proceeded to try to get me to agree to some children's book foundation, when i told them i would just throw them a few bucks they wouldn't take it. NO CASH is all they would tell me.
At the time i took these two kids as good guys who were just trying to earn a few bucks how ever they could. I worked in telemarketing i know how it feels to have people yell at you and hate you for just doing you job. So i just asked what i could do to help them. Well they told me i could subscribe to a magazine then cancel it immediately and never be charged but they would get points for the sell. They told me i would just write them a check and then cancel it in two days, (the amount of time for their points to be cleared). Well this is where alllll of you have every right to call me STUPID. Because i did it, i wrote them a check and made them PROMISE me that they would not let this check go to headquarters. Once i did they were ecstatic and started filling out all this information and then i handed them a check. They gave me a carbon copy of my order and went on their way.
Well i am not that trusting, when i wrote the check i didn't sign it and scratched out some of my information that is stamped on the check. But to be safe i called the number the kids told me to to cancel it to see what it was all about. THANK GOD i did this. When i called i was left to a machine that said no cancellations can be made via the internet or telephone; and that all cancellations MUST be completed by midnight of the THIRD night after the registration. Written in TINY print on the back of my receipt is a process i had to follow on how to void my payment. I had to have my receipt, my bank info and had to send a request of cancellation through the mail. Now we all know it takes about two days to get a letter next door, so i started to freak out.
I sent everything in and did everything i could do, thankfully i had my letter postmarked the day of the sell and sent it immediately. Well its been two weeks and i got my check back voided out. If you wrote these bastards a check go to your bank and cancel it immediately or you are in for a ride.
