I fell for exactly the same scam was at a service station on the M6 in England on May 21st 2009. This time Vicenzo claimed he was returning from a fashion show in Manchester, asked directions to Birmingham airport, and showed tickets and hire car.'Vicenzo' is a tanned man, possibly Indian/Asian rather than Italian, although he does speak Italian. He is overweight without being obese, and favours a pullover, faded jeans and white trainers. His hire car was a basic Ford Ka or similar from budget hire car co. I have to say it moved away pretty quickly after the transaction.
This time the excuse about taxes was supplemented with a tale that he had lost 2000 at a casino the night before, and needed cash urgently to cover the fee on his hire car, approx 200.
In exchange he sold me 2 leather coats and a suede coat; as before, they were described verbally as Emporio Armani, worth about 550 each, but there is no Emporio Armani insignia on them, instead they are printed with with the words ' Emporio Collection' (not collezione) in the lining, and also labelled 'Vanelli', which I suppose is meant to represent Vaneli.
These items may be viewed on EBay with a low start price for the next week or so, then after that at a charity shop of my choice in Nailsea, England.
