To avoid being ripped off by an online gold buyer, I decided to go to a local business where I could get cash in hand on the spot. Unfortunately, I got ripped off anyway!"Davis" slipped over $4,000 worth of items in his pocket while I chatted briefly with a lady.
I had taken in over 200 items so it was easy to not notice the missing items. When I first got there, I pulled one item from my bag and was attempting to establish a price and not get so confused as to let him rip me off. He kept insisting to get everything out of my bag. I am thankful that I didn't lay it all out on the counter.
I did have an inventory of items written on the plastic bag which held several smaller bags of gold. He even made off the the bag with the inventory list written on it.
Also, he said on the phone that he pays 80% of the gold value but then works quickly to lump all items and give you a cash pay out amount. After calculating, his offer was obviously not 80%.
I would never allow "Davis" to lay a hand on any of my belongings again.
I drove back to the store to confront him. He had already gone. The lady at the store called him on the phone and handed the phone to me. He denied having taken any items which I knew he would.
I just thought that perhaps had he still been in the store whenever I arrived that I might be able to retrieve my items. With him knowing that I knew he had taken them, I thought he might hand them back to me and tell me something like, "you forgot these items on the counter".
The next time I go into a place to sell, I will definitely have only two items at a time on the counter. A very costly lesson learned.
