A young man came to my door claiming to be selling magazine subscriptions in order to go to London and study with John Cleese. He gave his name as Andrew Phillis and said that he and his parents moved into an adjoining subdivision two and one half years ago after retiring from the military.
He asked if there was a table where he could write my order on an NCR form and I directed him to the deck at the back of my house. After I wrote the check, he asked for a drink and I got him a Pepsi from inside. He did not press to enter my home, perhaps because of the two large, loud dogs that I have.
When I related this experience to a neighbor, she found out that it was in all probably a scam, so I am writing this report. I have attempted to stop payment on the check and will probably close my bank account as well.
