I am a writing this today as I have been put in a dillema. I am a victim of what I have now learned to be an ever growing problem of a Log Home Scam.
I am a business owner, a small company but it pays the bills for my husband and I and we work together. We have purchased a Log Home Kit through Stacey Gaylord of Affordable Log Home Concepts in Rocky Mount, NC. Upon signing the contract and writing a check for $97,000 we were to receive our home in shipments. First the "cap" or first floor lumber, then the logs, the second floor materials, the roof materials, the windows and doors and finally the interior staircase, railings, spindles and decorator beams all in sequential phases.
We were going along ok, we received the first floor lumber, put it together, the logs and log siding came with partial tongue and groove for finishing inside, the second floor joists came, we were shorted 2 x 6 lumber for the shed dormer on the back of our house. The roofing materials came, only to find out that we were shorted 26 - 2 x 6 rafters for our front porch and 16 - 2 x 12 beams for our roof system and brackets and nails to hold everything together. Shingles were sent, ice and water shield - short 1 roll, felt paper - short 1 roll, ridge vents - short 16 feet. My windows were never ordered as Stacey Gaylord, Owner of Log Home Concepts kept promising me they had been. My finishing products - staircase and interior decorator beams - were never ordered.
Affordable Log Home Concepts did not returned my phone calls for 2 weeks. I had turned to Legal Advice but unfortunately we are talking about $5000 just to start a case against him with future bills. I have spent $2000 just for my attorney to try to contact Stacey.
Needless to say, I have 3/4 of the log home built in Hilton, NY 14468. I don't have double money to put out for my windows but we have purchased them on credit as well as the doors The finishing items that ALHC was supposed to order I basically have been screwed out of.
There are time restraints on my mortgage to complete the project. My attorney says this could take years if I were to start a case against him. What it comes down to and my final question is, I looked into this guy... Better Business Bureau, searched the internet and nothing came up for him. I never knew there was a growing problem with Log Home Sellers running off with money. Now that I am face to face with it, and only through dealing with my Attorney and he dealing with an Attorney in NC, do I know about this issue. Not that it does any good now. I am going to lose the property my parents have given to me, land that is directly behind their home. I am going to lose my home that I have worked years to build and have strived to achieve. Stacey Gaylord has shorted me a total of over $35,000 worth of merchandise that he has been paid for. ALL of which HAS to be purchased to even be able to receive a Certificate of Occupancy.
Buyers beware of Affordable Log Home Concepts and/or Log Homes Direct which is also what he runs another business under. He took my money and won't return phone calls to me or even to my Lawyer. I paid for a "Log Home Kit" and did not receive everything that was promised to me in our contract. The attorney general and FBI doesn't even do anything about it either as I have written to both in NY and in NC.
