Well, the inevitable has happened. Hey, I'm Smoke, and I had filed a workman's comp claim against Werner Enterprises, you know, "the company that cares" about it's drivers. Well, can you BELIEVE IT? They denied my claim.
The claim manager to whom I was working with, called me today and gave me the UNEXPECTED news? This is a company and career that has taken the entire cartilage out of both of my hips and they're saying it was a pre-existing condition. I have NO mention of hip problems in my medical records from my PCP, nor have I ever had any problems as such.
First of all, this is a company that has been gathering, so they say, information about me since January 16th when I flew home from Fontana, CA in excrutionating pain (they wanted to bus me home in 2 1/2 days). Now, as of March 13, (guess unlucky Friday the 13th for me) they decided to deny my claim. Oh yes, we care... So they say.
I was willing to be cordial with any settlement they would offer and I told Doug S. That that was my ONLY concern. I needed to get some cash into this home to pay bills that have been mounting and was ready to settle in an agreement completely agreeable to both of us. NOW, my entire mindset has changed after having read the NUMEROUS accounts in this web site about Werner.
NOW, all gloves are off. I've retained an attorney who has fought Werner and WON in Omaha. I'm not going for any minimal settlement any longer. I'm going for the moon against this company. This is NOT a company who cares about its employees and drivers but rather ONLY THEMSELVES. I told my attorney that the amount of settlement WILL NOT BE LESS THAN SIX (6) FIGURES and compensation will last me the rest of MY life and my spouses. I don't want him to PUSSY FOOT around with this and I want something done yesterday. Again, I offered to be agreeable!
You guys out there who have been snubbed and/or ignored by Werner need to do the same. SOMEONE has to put an END to this companies self interests and rally! Once their Attorneys find out that there are more of ME out there and are tired of their arrogance and self interests, they'll take another STRONG look at their slogan... At Werner, We Care! Band together my fellow truckers... Let's stop this BS of this SICK COMPANY.
