White Egret Farm may rip off its customers but it also rips off its workers. Lee, the owner of this farm makes it a point to hire immigrant women who don't speak English very well. She will hire them by promising to pay them $7-$8/hour and she will pay them the first week or two, however she will refuse to pay them for the weeks after. She has gone as far as paying one women only $20 for a weeks work. Another woman that worked for her has said that she told Lee that she could not come in to work because she had not been paid and could not afford the gas. Lee told the woman to come in and only gave her $10 for the days work. Furthermore, Lee does not give her workers lunch breaks or any other kind of break. They are forced to sneak in a meal while they work. Lee also does not provide her workers with enough water. It is very hard to work in the outdoors in the Austin heat. There are many immigrant workers who used to work for Lee that are filing claim with the Texas Workforce Commission and she is also facing a lawsuit because of her violations of labor laws. These complaints go as far as 2004. Please, I urge you, do not buy products from this business. Lee does nothing more than exploit her workers. If you have any compassion for workers don't give this woman your business.
