Here is what I know... Apparently he (Peter Brown) called the house and left a message on the home machine My husband states he did not ever identify where he was calling from or who was "representing". My husband called him back and got some initial information (threats) and proceeded to call me to follow up.
When I called the number (714) 333-2954, a man answered the phone... I identified myself and he took off running. He never once even told me his name or where he was calling from. He hit me with federal "criminal charges" for check fraud, and 2 other "counts" and stated that he was downloading my file and that the investigators would be out to my place of employment to "haul me off to the courts" and if I did not pay the amount in full, then I would go to jail for 6 years. I asked him who the creditor was and he told me that it was American Credit Services regarding money paid to me in December on a Security Services Account routing # 31488637 account # 4693417072. I asked him who the original creditor was and he stated American Credit Services. I proceeded to tell him that the account in question had been closed for about 3 years and that I did not understand what this was for. I asked several times for more information only to be stone-walled. At this point, I asked him the amount of the debt and he stated $1495.00 with fees, penalties, and interest. I asked him again for the original creditor and the original amount and he provided me nothing. He stated I needed to pay him $1495.00 today to avoid court and being arrested.
I told him that I am willing to pay my debts, but wanted time to research the claim and he told me that I had 5 minutes to research the claim and then he was proceeding with the legal actions. I asked him what my options were and he proceeded to tell me that I had to pay everything. I insisted to him that I was unable to pay the "debt" in full and he was unwilling to budge. I continued to tell him that I had no idea what this was for and wanted to research it a little more. He told me no, and asked to speak to my attorney. I told him I did not have an attorney and wanted to pay the debt (as I am sure I must owe someone... It is possible.) He was not willing to budge. At some point, he conceded a bit and told me I needed to write a letter of apology to American Credit Services apologizing and stating why I was unable to pay the debt in full.
He literally badgered me until I agreed to pay on the debt... Without further investigation, and I had to provide my debit card and a letter stating that I authorized the payment of $1495... I wrote the letter but altered it so that it did not give them blanket permission to debit all of the funds from my account. Then he proceeded to tell me that I had to pay $700 to him within 15 minutes. I told him he was crazy and that I did not have that kind of money and that I had literally spent the last $25 I had on taking my daughter to the doctor's. He backed off enough to demand $700.00 on Friday which I vehemently told him I could not pay. I offered him $200 and was told that $200 was not sufficient to hold the account. I told him that was all I could offer at this time and he refused it. He proceeded to tell me that I was behaving badly for asking for options when he had been so helpful and willing to help me. He was belittling and condescending. I told him that I could not pay anything more than $200.00 on Friday and he rejected that stating that I needed to pay $500.00 on Friday. I told him that I could not come up with that kind of money on Friday and he told me to basically, beg, borrow and steal to have $500 on Friday. I finally gave in and provided my debit card number and hung up from him, emotionally and physically exhausted to think straight.
Now I am hoping I can stop all direct deposits to the account I gave them and to file a report with the Colorado Police.
