My mother purchased a TV at Circuit City in Boca Raton and was billed twice for it.
Jeremy at the checkout counter took her credit card and had her sign a credit card slip. He then disappeared for 20 minutes to get "rebate coupons". When he came back, he swiped her card again and asked her to sign something else along with handing her some papers for rebates.
My mother is 79 years old and did not know that he was charging her credit card again for the same TV until she received her credit card statement a month later. She disputed the charges, but the credit card company said that there were two credit card slips.
This has to be a scam because the computer point of sale inventory system should have prevented it (double swiping for the same merchandise). Unless, of course, when Jeremy left for 20 minutes he was going into the back of the store to find another bar code to re-scan into the register to charge for another TV.
We need help with this. Is it happened to one person, then it has to be happening to many more. With the store going out of business, many people will only discover this fraud before it is too late.
