I was driving on a parkway. I passed a few people and settled behind a white van. I was 2-3 car lengths behind the white van. I hate tailgaters so I refuse to do it. Both the white van and I were going between 50 and 55 MPH the limit is 55. The limit changes to 35. Still behind the white van we both slowed to 40 then 35 then 30. The whole time the van was 2-3 car lengths in front of me. We stop at a stop light then as soon as the light turns green, I get pulled over. The officer asks me for my licensee and registration. I have no idea why I am being pulled over and ask, he says in a rude tone, "license and registration and then we'll talk about it."
So, I find it and give it to him and ask why I am being pulled over he says for speeding. I said what? How is that possible the fastest I may have gone is 56-57 but behind the white van we were going 50 - 55 then we slowed to 40 -30. He told me "the white van (I was behind for a half to quarter mile) was going slower than I." I said "how is that possible?" (Physics says that is not possible by the way.) This cop tells me to wait here, as if I could go anywhere. There was an issue with my address change on my license as well but that's not the issue.
Anyway he comes back with the speeding ticket, and the not reporting my address change to the DMV ticket. I said could you explain to me how a van in front of me that I was 2-3 car lengths behind for a quarter to half a mile could possibly going slower than me. He said are you going to let me explain this ticket Ma'am. I said I don't need the ticket explained to me. I want to know how it's possible that someone ahead of me doing the speed limit could possibly be going slower than me. He said something along the lines that he (the white van) was going slower than me. I told him that's a lie. Then after a pause, he continued to explain the ticket. I told him I really didn't need the ticket explained to me I'm NOT GUILTY and that's that. He told me to drive carefully and I promptly left.
OK, there is no Bermuda triangle or Twilight Zone or Bizzarro world on that parkway to make physics change. So the guy is lying, flat out lying. It's impossible to be behind a vehicle for half and mile 2-3 car lengths and be going faster than that car. If I had gotten the ticket honestly such as the not changing my address ticket, I wouldn't be here. Be careful when driving in Niagara Falls, NY these troopers will lie to make their quotas!
At this point I am going to fight it. I cannot afford an increase in my insurance for a conviction nor can I afford to take it to trial but I don't believe liars should just be aloud to get away with it. I have gotten other tickets before. One for truly speeding and the other was also a lie and I ate it. But I can't any longer let these people continue to penalize me because they have a ticket quota. I don't even know how to react or what to do about this. It makes me sick that because they have a badge and gun that they can lie and get away with it.
