Maaco Collision Repair & Auto Painting Center
Liars, cheats, theaves

I purchased a 1978 chevy stepside truck. The truck had a few dents in it and being retired and bored i tried fixing these dents myself. They came out looking pretty good. But when i took the truck to maaco rosie who was the estimator convinced me that my body work would show up when painted. So after an hour of telling that the only way the truck would look good would be if i let them go over my body work and sand and prime the truck before painting it. I was promised the job would be completed in one week at a price of 1200 dollars. It was important that i got the truck back quickly because i am moving from ca to or.

Well 5 days later rosie called and told me it was going to take another 5 days to complete the job. Now the 1200 dollars was supposidly a discount price because i had a car that needed painting and i told rosie if they did a good job i would let them paint it also. To get the discount i had to give them a 100 dollar deposit on the car. So when i got upset at rosie about the delay in painting the truck i told her that i would not be letting them paint the car.

Now the very next day after her call informing me about the delay rosie called to let me know my truck was ready to be picked up. This was puzzelling to me but i went to get the truck anyway. Right away they started showing me runs in the paint, places that had no paint at all, none of the body work had been done and when ask about these problems with the job. Rosie told me that the work order did not state they would repair the dents i was pointing out. As for the places that did not get any paint at all i was told that they would have to remove my fenders to paint there and that was not inculded in the price i was given. Rosie did offer to fix the runs in the paint if i wanted to leave the truck until they had time to get to it. So i informed her that i could not do that because i was moving and needed the truck. She than told me the only way i could get my truck back was if i paid the full amount and signed a release stating that i was pleased with the job they did. I had no choice. I did how ever put a note on the release stating i was not happy with the job. And ask her for the depoist back that i had left on the car.

Than i was informed that because i was given a discount on the truck i would not be getting my deposit back on the car. So i left there very upset came home and called the automotive repair bureau the federal trade commision and the better business bureau and than started my move. While moving the paint on the bed was scratched and to my suprise (and i don't know why i was suprised) i discovered there had been no primer put on the truck before being painted. I also called maaco's home office to complain about these people and could only reach a anwsering machine. Which told me i would be contacted the following business day by a rep.

I still haven't heard from them 5 days later. If any one knows where i can get help please let me know. I am a disabled vet and i am on a fixed income so money isn't something i have a lot of.
