I received a letter with a check for 4,550.00 informing me I won 2ND place in an international sweepstakes and I had won FOR HUNDRED AND SEVENTY THOUSAND DOLLARS. I was instructed to call a Chris Miller before depositing the check. It also stated that Able Financial Services had been assigned to inform the winners and to pay them off their money which would be a certified check payed by a special courier company. The enclosed check was provided to help pay the taxes and is payable to the tax agent, Debra Sage. The tax amount was 3,450.00.
When I called, a man with a thick Indian accent said to deposit the check and call him back for further instructions. I suspected fraud so I took it to the bank. The supervisor told me it was mail fraud and I should report it. She said if it's deposited they would have my bank account numbers. Luckily they got nothing from me. I do worry about any others who might not be so lucky and fall for this scam.
