I received a scary looking letter today from these people that call themselves "Check Processing Bureau." After completely PANICKING and thinking someone must have stolen my check book, I called the local authorities for advice, and they looked this up on the internet.
Here goes:
NOTICE OF CRIMINAL CHECK FRAUD RECOMMENDATION
Dear (My Name),
(BOLD LETTERING) Criminal check fraud charges are being formally recommended as a result of your issuance of fraudulent check (s) in the state of New Mexico.
We are required by law to advise you if this action. A copy of this notice shall be forwarded to your local prosecutor/District attorney and become part of your permanent record. This record will be made available to you and your attorney prior to commencement of criminal proceddings.
State law requires service of such notice. Your signed payment and receipt will constitute proper service in upcoming proceedings.
Check fraud is a felony in the state of new mexico.

This is a horrible thing to do to innocent people and right at Christmas time. I am going to report these people to every one I can including the police here and the New York, NY police and the FBI.
