I second all the comments submitted by others on this website. Lian, the only representative from Peak Van Lines, called me aggressively and was incredibly sweet and persuasive over the phone. She gave me an extremely attractive price based on my submitted inventory and reassured me that I shouldn't have to worry if I went over a little.
On the day of the move, Isaac, the president of the company, shows up in a rented Enterprise van, loads up my inventory then charges double. He also charged me $1000 in packing materials to pack a sofa, bed and some lamps. He was rude and threatening. I had no choice but to pay him since my stuff was effectively held hostage.
On the day of my move, I examined the truck that arrived (which came from a different company), and my inventory took up less space than what Isaac quoted me. The driver, who was unaffiliated with Peak, confirmed my measurement. I called Lian and she said — get this — that linear feet varied from truck to truck, so that's why Isaac's linear foot measurement was higher than what the driver was reporting.
To top it off, several items were broken and five of my paintings were stolen. Lian never responded to my claim for insurance.
Their website is a sham. They list on their invoice an address of 7847 Caldwell Ave in Niles, and have a photo on their website of a nice office building, but the address is that of a towing company, who reported that the "moving company that used to be here moved out a year ago". Lian and Isaac appear to work out of their house in Skokie. Their prior moving company, Target, was dissolved.
Do not use these guys, they are complete scam artists
