Bethany Group, Waterfield Court Apartment A COMPANY WHO DOESN'T CARE

Just want to begin with, I have been a tenant since 2003. The previous staff and management company was understanding and very respectful. Then it was over. It all started when most of the previous staff of Waterfield Court Apartment left for reasons because another management team was getting ready to take over and there was nothing but bad things said about the new management company. The previous staff left without giving notices.

Before they left, the visited us and warned us about this company and honestly, we should have left also. They must've known something we didn't know because ever since this change everything has been bad around this complex.

For example, on July 30, I went to King Soopers Grocers to get money orders to pay the rent. My lease was up and had hoped to sign a new lease but unfortunately, my lease was not ready to sign. I questioned about payment of the rent and said for me to bring it when I sign the lease. I said okay. I talked with Valla first, she told me to call the next day and see if it was ready.

On the following Dates, I came or called: 7/30/08: went to pay rent/sign lease not ready to sign; called 8/2/08: was told to call on 8/3; called 8/3: lease not ready call again 8/7,8; called again 8/7,8: lease not ready; August 11; 8/11: lease was not ready to sign. On Monday, Christine answered the phone and said that it was still not ready and for me to come in on Tuesday 8/12; 8/12/08: Walking in the office on 8/12 at 5:05pm, Alicia asked our option and we took the option of one year. All this time she never explained or read to us the provisions of this lease or if any changes have been made, so we continue to sign the documents. She just said initial here and here sign there and there.

Now we know the rent is $803.00 per month. I informed Alicia I have two money orders for partial payment and cash to get more money orders. There was a letter that she pulled from our file, kept reading this letter, and took it to show Holly and they started to laugh loudly. She said loudly keep on signing where you need to sign. Alicia would not let go of that letter and waited until after we signed the lease and says now that you sign the lease you now owe a late charge and said according to the letter we owe $978.00 and late charges.

My husband and I were stunned we been trying to pay the rent ever since July 30 and nobody would take my money. Our problem was it was the office that was late with the lease and we were not going to give our money before we actually signed the lease, legally we were in the apartment for two (2) weeks without any documents saying that we legally lived there. It was the office mistake and then they wanted us to pay late charges because they were not ready with the lease. Doesn't make a lot sense to me, I know it's some things I don't know, but we are not that lame or stupid.

Then things got worse when rent payment was due for November. Office staff refused to accept my money orders on November 4 once again. I told them I am writing the corporate office again and sarcastically said go ahead and have a nice day! I wrote a complaint to Better Business Bureau and the corporate office a few months ago regarding the above paragraph highlighted in yellow explaining the problems we have been having in this complex.

I think these new employees are retaliating against me because of the previous complaint and this is one of the reasons why my husband and me are having this problem. I am being black listed as a tenant. After calling the office and I was wondering why we had to pay this amount, we had not been given any information as to why we owe over $1,000 in rent fees when rent is only $803, which includes $60 parking fees. No descriptions as to how the fees were suppose to be itemized just was told a flat total of $978 and $50 in late fees plus $10 a day until all fees are paid, then some $250 fee after 3 days if not paid which they said, we would pay for.

Then after I left the office of Waterfield Court Apartments, no sooner than 10 minutes. An employee comes knocking on the door and leaves with a flyer demanding payment for $978 with no explanation as I mentioned above or no explanation of which $978 pertains to, which should only be $803 including $60 which is parking stall fees, which is a part of the rent, but they could accept late, which they had done on previous occasions, but now, no more late.

Not too long ago they sent out flyers pertaining of not accepting any rent after the 1st, but then states, if paid by the 3rd, it's ok, the document seems to be misleading, because then it says if paid after the 3rd, this is when all these additional fees starts to add up and we think something is really wrong here. On the sheet it has a check mark stating that they had made a diligent effort to contact us and we only received this demand until I went to the office trying to pay my rent on November 4, all they did was showed me information of which they never showed us in the beginning, otherwise there was no diligent effort on their part.

We have checked online regarding this Apartment Complex that is managed by Bethany Group from out of California and only to find out there are many claims of wrongdoing from previous or present tenants. Not only that, they are making us pay for the water when there is no water meter. The water bill is divided amongst the tenants in each building. Then if you are the only tenant in the building, you are responsible for the whole building. My husband I need assistance to protect our rights as renters, we feel as though we have been called out for no wrongful act on our part. Just want to get respect and respect will be given back. If not, it's just flat out wrong.
