I am writing a complaint about Ed Murphy, an “electrician” who has a business called EJ Electric Inc located from his home at 2957 Post Avenue, Wantagh, New York 11793, telephone number 516-410-0733 and 516-322-5277.
Mr. Ed Murphy came recommended from two people both in a "higher up" position at the Nassau County Police Department, one of which is my friend. Thus, I trusted my friend’s opinion and trusted and hired Ed to complete minor work on my house on Saturday, June 28. I have a paid in full receipt, signed by Mr. Ed Murphy, on his company paper. He did not complete the job on this day but promised it was a minor thing and would finish on Monday, June 30. This work has yet to be done! For over four months I have heard every excuse in the book. At first it was he had to order a part, other times he just ignored my call, then it was I do not have my truck today, to I do not have any workers to help me, etc. Many times we had an appointment set up and he would cancel an hour before! I have most phone messages left by him saved to both my home and cell phones. The excuses went on and on. Given he is good friends with my friend, I knew Ed Murphy would do right by them. Sadly, this is not the case, as I am still waiting for Ed Murphy to finish the job! If he could not take on the job from the get go he should have said NO, rather than play "games" with me for over 4 months.
It should also be noted that on June 28 Ed Murphy came to my house with a "Day Laborer" who could not speak English. It made me uncomfortable that this guy had difficulty putting together a ceiling fan! Then Mr. Murphy left him alone for an hour in my attic wiring a new attic fan. I told Mr. Murphy that I was uncomfortable with this but he assured me he knows what he is doing. Again, I trusted him based on the recommendations through a mutual friend in a high position in the Nassau County Police Dept.
I recently took it upon myself to see if Ed Murphy was licensed given all my problems. Ed Murphy is NOT a licensed electrician in Nassau County (according to the Town of Hempstead and the Town of Oyster Bay). I understand that Mr. Murphy has some complaints against him. Ed Murphy has conducted himself in a very umprofessional way and has yet to finish the work he started on my house over 4 months ago! Minor work or not, this is not how one should conduct a business and not licensed to do so. This complaint, along with my work not being finished after he has received payment in full, is yet just another complaint against Ed Murphy. Further, I look up his company in the local phone book, yellow pages, as well as online, and no company seems to exists in Nassau County. The only EJ Electric Inc I found was a very large company located in the city.
