I contacted Gerald Cooper April 4. He came out and wrote an estimate for a wooden, privacy-fence, arched, with Caps and entrance gate - for 129 sq feet - at 6 feet tall. The entire cost $1548 was paid in full on 4/4/07. The work was expected to be finished by 4-9-07 - The work was started on or around 4/16/07. Since, He had to wait 10 days for the check to clear his bank before purchasing the supplies.
Mr Cooper and 2 other guys came out and built the fence. After the work was supposedly finished-I inspected the fence and saw that fence was put up with staples rather than nails. Then, after a couple days, the boards started coming lose because staples were used on the vertical boards and not nails. Also, one of the boards was broken in the middle. I called Mr Cooper and he claimed that someone kicked the board in and said he would come out. He came out and inspected it; he said he would have to go get another board and will come back. He never did. After weeks of calling, he never replaced the board. I called and reported that other boards were coming lose because of the staples and that I needed someone to fix this. After a couple months, I started nailing the boards to keep the fence from completely coming down. I later went to Lowe's and purchased a couple boards as spares. I replaced several that were broken. I kept calling and leaving messages-advising him that the fence has a 2 year warranty and that I needed someone to come out and fix it before the summer. Summer passed, Fall came and No results. I called and asked him to fix the fence before the Holidays, no results.
Then, in 2008 before the summer my next door neighbor was having a fence built by a professional company-I spoke to the owner of that company. He advised me to file a lawsuit: he said my fence wasn't put up right, they should have had 3 horizontal boards going across, one on top, one in the middle and one on the bottom; he said that they shouldn't have used staples but nails and I had no CAPS which will cause the wood to rot faster. I asked Mr Cooper to come out and spoke to him on the phone—I told him that my neighbor was having a fence built and that he needed to get over here before they finished their fence; otherwise he wouldn't be able to get to the other side because my neighbors gate would block him. He actually came out and apologized that a guy he hired who was no longer with him put the fence up wrong. He agreed 3 boards should have gone across and that the staples were too short for the job. He also said, he would come out and renail all the boards - then when he had enough money, he would tear the fence down and rebuild it RIGHT from ground up.
I kept calling his phone from my home number and cell phone, he's stopped answering calls. He doesn't respond to voice messages. It's now September and nothing. My warranty ends April the boards are still loose and falling-when i nail one another falls. It's a terrible fence and very bad business. I would not call Cooper's fence for any other job again!
