I also recieved a letter in the mail stating i was the 3rd place winner and the prize was $1 million. There was also a check enclosed for $5889 to cover the fees. The check looks legit, and the letter looks pretty real. But i noticed a few things that made me wonder...
For one, when you get things from publishers clearing house... There is usually a bunch of official rules, and fine print on the back of the paperwork.
There was also no return address, and postmarked from Canada, with just a regular canadian stamp. I'm pretty sure the real PCH doesn't ust regualr stamps...
I also noticed a mark across the back of the letter... Looks like was printed more or less from a "home" printer. I also tried to call the phone nember listed... And only got the voicemail. Didn't really sound like a legitimate recording either.
So just be careful, if they get your account number, they could wipe out your account, or have you cash the check, and your liable for the charges if it's returned.
