I received a call from Bernard Haldane Associates a couple of weeks ago. They told me that they have some opportunities that I would be interested in and wanted me to go for a preliminary interview. They did not tell me up front that they are not recruiters. I only found this out when I got there. They spent all of 20 minutes going through their program and gave me bunch of papers to fill out. Then they proceeded to schedule another appmt the following day. When I told them that I cannot make it the next day, they hesitantly changed it to another day.
I called to re-schedule again due to other conflict. Then when it's time for me to go, my car broke down. I called to let them know that I wouldn't be able to go in since I don't have transportation. I asked if they could just go over the 2nd interview through the phone. The lady there said that I had to be there in person so that she can explain how she could help me find a job. I said I didn't know that and asked if we could reschedule. She said that she already rescheduled twice for me and that I have taken 2 hours of her time. Moreover she proceeded to comment that she does not think I am not seriously looking for a job and that she has too many clients that want her service. So I happily told her 'goodbye'.
Little did I know that many people have been scammed by this company. I'm glad that I did not make the 2nd meeting. If the fee is comparable — $5000, then I don't think I'd ever pay that kind of money anyhow.
Believe in yourself! You can find the job yourself. Be assertive and go to the company and be friendly. Get to know the HR people. Even if there's no job at the moment, if they know you and something comes up, they'll remember to call you.
