Town And Country Realty
Wrongfully overbilled

To all person/s interested in renting from Town and Country Realty in Klamath Falls, OR:

I only wish I had devoted more personal time to investigating the reputation of Town and Country Realty in Klamath Falls, OR. For anyone even remotely interested in going through this company my advice to you is to go find somewhere else. I found myself in a renter's nightmare that finally just got resolved, 3 months after departure mind you. My roommates and I are now down an additional 1200 dollars in addition to an already hefty security deposit. Let me describe what occured during our 9 month stay that resulted in this unfortunate situation for 3 college students. Let me remind anyone who reads this... Do not go through this property management company. I will attempt to explain our situation as clearly as possible to give anyone reading this a better idea of what my roommates and I had to go through.

In the beginning of September my roommates and I agreed on a house to rent from in Klamath Falls, OR. Applications, fees and any other supporting documentation was provided to Town and Country Realty within the first week of September. We did not get approved for the house until 3 weeks later! In addition to this we had asked for a move in date of one week prior to school beginning for the Fall. What did we get? The weekend before school started. The landlord changed dates on us so many times that we ended up having a late move in date. Since time was working against us we had no choice but to continue 'working' with the landlord. Upon first impressions of the house when I moved in the weekend before school still leaves me speechless. The house was in terrible shape and I am more than positive that no effort was made on behalf of the property management company to have the house ready in a presentable manner. The yard, siding, floors, kitchen, basement and everything in between looked as though it had been abandoned and left to collect dust, debris, cobwebs, etc. Needless to say my roommates and I were not happy. Part of our rental contract included a landscaping service provided by our landlord to tend to the already dying yard. We agreed to have this service and the cost to us was an additional 40 dollars a month to allow the landscaper to tend to the lawn. This did not happen! Not only did it not happen but the landscaper had a heart attack and we were still left to pay the monthly fees even though our landlord had asked us to do her the favor of the groundskeeping. Over the course of the year, although not proven, the three of us had suspected that the owner was gaining access to the house without our knowing. When we returned from Christmas break we found the house in a different condition than when we had last left it. Things were out of place, soda pop cans were missing and in general the house did not seem to be in the state that we expected it to be. Finally, the end of our lease comes to an end after miscellaneous dealings with her in the past 9 months big and small. Nonetheless, an annoyance to put it lightly. Soon after the three of us depart and we begin to get harrassing e-mails from the landlord indicated that she was going to hold us responsible for damage done to the house. This includes everything from the hardwood floors to ridiculous items such as a missing 'pull string' to a light fixture. Our security deposit... Gone. New balance 1600 dollars! However, if we pay by a certain date she will do us the favor of reducing it to 1200 dollars. Needless to say neither one of us were happy. We went through the Better Business Bureau and go nothing.in fact, the 1200 dollar offer may have been the result of the BBB in that she may have tried to charge us more money. We all thought about going to a lawyer and handling it in court. Legal advice indicated that in order to fight the property management company we would more than likely spend more in court and lawyer fees than what she was asking. Our hands were tied. We had to give in and give her the amount she had requested. Later, through the grapevine and by speaking with past students I have also learned that this is a recurring theme with this company. Not only has she screwed students in the past but she is also in the process of being sued by several people. This is my only hope for redemption. Hopefully this blog will deter anyone that is even remotely interested in going through Town and Country Realty for renting or purchasing. Do not go through this company! Spend the time and effort to go through someone else before you find yourself in the pickle that my roommates and I found ourselves to be in.
