The Martinsburg Journal
The Martinsburg Journal took half of my paycheck from my last check, even though I gave 30 days notice! Ripped me off!

So yeah, no one work for the Martinsburg Journal as a carrier or as any other kind of employer. I worked there for approximately 4 months, before deciding that I was moving out of state, I was really good friends with my manager and the individual who hired me. I never missed any of my papers, and I always had substitutes for nights I wouldnt be able to work. My manager Sandy told me I was the most reliable carrier she had ever had, and was grateful for that... Blah blah blah, I dont want to bore you with all of the details.

Sandy advised me I would need to place an advance notice of resignation within 30 days of me leaving, so I did so. I even sent in about 5 other people to Sandy to take my position once I had left. Well Sandy got fed up with working for the Journal, and left about 2 weeks before I was supposed to leave. That is when it got really hectic. I had people calling me whom I had never spoken with before, demanding that I take these prospective employees on my route with me to show them around, it was super stressful and they always called me early in the morning, knowing that I work til nearly 6 am. Everyone they sent to me, never showed up. So I annoyed them into hiring one of the guys whom I had sent into them before Sandy had resigned.

Everything was going okay, and my last day was going to be wedensday of that week. On sunday (3 days before my last day) I came home from a charity motorcycle event to find my car had been stolen, and so had my tags off of all of my vehicles, and my roomate robbed by knife point, with all of his rent money in his pocket.

I called the "new" guy and asked him if he could start early, he said he could. I called the guy who had hired me, James, who said he would do my route with the new guy that night to show him the route. I felt really bad for James because he only got paid about 10 dollars to do a route my size, seeing he was salary, and only got paid per mile, instead of per paper like I do.

Well to make a long story even longer, sorry everyone, I received my paycheck that following friday, with over $300 out of my $800 check gone. I received an explanation from the BRAND new manager of The Journal, that they had taken out $60 for James time, $60 for Melissas time, $60 for the "circulation managers time", $60 for the new carrier (to pay him out of my money for that night), another $50 for Melissas mileage, and to top it off, they stated I didnt deliver my papers for the 2 nights leading up to Sunday night (which is BS!!!) so thats $120. All of this, because of what? Can anyone explain to me how anyone has a legal right to take that much money out of my check with no explanation? Ive spoken to James, who states that Melissa and himself get paid about $10 to do my route, and that the new guy gets paid from the company, not my check.

Ive already filed a complaint with the WV Department of Wage and Labor, but this is all so frustrating, I want the world to know what kind of Employer The Journal is. And the new Manager, Nick Kylis or whatever his name is, is a very cold hearted revengeful individual.
