On aug 29 katrina struck the ms gulf coast. After some time and many volunteers, we were able to buy some groceries and goods thanks to the wonderful people at wal mart that set up a tent in their parking lot. They even boasted how they were here for us. However, one block away, a church group had the same and more items that were being donated. Wal mart rebuilt in record time. It has been nearly 3 years and there are no competitors. Not one grocery store has been built. We are being held hostage by the wal mart corp. And politicians in this area. Lies have been spread that the population has not returned to support a grocery. Shelves are empty of basic goods, prices are 10 to 20 percent higher than a similar wal mart 21 miles away. I would like to do an informal survey of customers shopping (outside the store) but am afraid i would be arrested, even though i am bonbarded by beggars authorized by wal mart at every entrance. The fact that wal mart undercuts local businesses and revenue leaves the city, county and state falls on deaf ears of our local politicians. They have made the city unfriendly to new business with the help of wal mart. Can anyone help us?
