Nice web site. I wondered if you/anyone might be able to help us?

My situation involves a dog (Max) purchased from the Humane Society of CNY on Taft rd. N. Syracuse, N.Y. After several inquiries and due to my two young children I was assured the dog was in healthy and in good condition and that the dog had proper veterinary care. I was told several times that the dog was healthy and would be checked out by a Vet.

That there would be a waiting period for this and for neutering to be done. I paid 75.00 for the dog. After bringing the dog home over the next several days the dog seemed to be having a health problem. He was coughing getting sick, acting peculiar. I took the dog to my Vet and discovered that the dog had heartworm. My Vet was very surprised by this and said, They had always in the past tested for the humane assoc. I contacted the Humane Association and told them that despite their protestations to the contrary the dog was sick. Then (a lady by the name of Joyce) later called me and told me they wanted the dog back (repeatedly).

I told them that I wanted the dog and that they should help pay for the cost of heartworm treatment. They have ignored several of my requests to make right on this issue. It cost me almost and approximately $850.00 to treat the dog. Max now has tested and no longer has Heartworm. I/We are very happy with this my children and I love him he is a part of our family. HOWEVER, concerns I would like addressed:

1. Should an agency that is supposed to look out for the rights of animals in need be releasing sick and diseased animals to an unsuspecting public (Lie to them) and without a rabies shot?

2. Is the public citizen who is willing to give an unwanted animal a home subject to bills for a sick animal after paying an adoption fee of 75.00 and an assurance that the animal has been and will be checked out by a Vet and is healthy?

3. Is this happening to other people in our community?

4. What responsibility does the Humane Association have to the pets they are supposed to protect and to the community they serve?

5. Does the Humane Association receive funding from the taxpayers and private donations?

6. Does the Humane Association have a Board of Directors that supports this lack of care toward the public and the pets they are entrusted to care for?

7. Does the administration of the Humane Association follow their own policy and procedure when they treat the public and the pet in ways that are not in the best interest of either party they serve?

8. Should an agency as such be able to deceive, mislead and endanger the Public that it serves? Shouldnt they be held responsible for the lack of honesty isnt anybody Honest anymore?

I do understand that you are not in the business of giving free advice. However, I would appreciate it if you let me know you thoughts, suggestions. I didnt have the money to spend on these Vet bills. As for I am a struggling single father tiring to raise my two young children to have respect, decent morals and values. However, I couldnt pet knowing it may be put to sleep. I also felt it was my moral obligation to save this animals life. I have contacted the humane assoc. With little to no responds to resolve this issue. I contacted the Nation Humane assoc. With No responds. I feel that I am fighting a losing battle here.

It is a principal matter now. I cant believe that an organization that I thought was a good, safe, honest, caring, respectful place to get a pet ended up lying and treating my children, a pet and I this way. I feel this is/was very wrong. That should be reimbursed these Vet fees for treatment of the Heartworm. Along with the Public should be made aware of this. I have also just learn that there is an ongoing State investigation with the Humane assoc.

Due to the supervisor had pets put to sleep because she disliked them and She made signs/instructions on how to kill cats. That the former employees claimed in a number of letters and are claiming and had writen to a local News Reporter Julie Abbot of CBS bWIXT CHANNEL 9 News in Syracuse N.Y. As Julie had just done a story about Us and our dog Max. Please, reply and feel free to contact me for further any supporting documentation at the above number, e-mail for this disturbing matter. Thank you for taking time to read my communication. Take-care hope to hear from you Thanks once again, my best to you.

Espectfully yours
