My fault for topping a trailer while following instructions from my trainer?

Ok, like all or most trainers from Werner they're bossy or stinky or both and only in it for the money. The one I had was clean, not a talker and very particular about how and when he wanted things done. I had to let him know from jump I wasn't the one to be disrespected. He look out for me though wh3en it came to food though, oh and did I mention he had 150,000 miles of safe driving well this all changed our 2nd week out.

We had a trip to somewhere in NY. He asked if I felt comfortable with driving and I looked at him like *are you serious? * but then I understood he's been up for hours, and he couldn't hold my hand all the way. I told him "I'm alright I'll just call you when I need you". He told me the exit I was getting off. I seen this exit that said (something bc I don't remember) but it was the number but I think it was the business district or a detour for something but anyway I called him like "UMM, hey Uhh, can you get up? I think I got off on the wrong exit." He got up and said just hop back on. Since there was no on ramp or there was a median in the road we had to go through the city (Binghamton).

We were driving slow to see if we were allowed to go the way we were going. My trainer told me that I could bc this was a truck route. I seen two bridges coming up none had height postings. So then I was driving slower (15mph) then he said "it's ok this is a truck route" I said unsurely "ok".

We went under the first one no problem. We approached the second (wooden railroad bridge)... Bam! Bent smoke stacks, peeled a lil more than half of the the top 4inches of the 53' trailer like a can opener. Silver steel pieces were flying everywhere. MY trainer's like "shit!" and I'm looking at him like "hey you told me too" Cops came. We both tried to deflate the tires didn't work, so wrecker came and tore off the rest of trailer (top). I wasn't charged with anything nor given anything.

My company said my trainer was mostly chargeable but that I was the one that was driving and that if I was unsure even a little bit that I was suppose to stop and check and they wanted me to take safety course.

Ok yes I will say that I was taught that in school, to stop and check. It's just that I figured he had 150,000 miles of safe driving and alot of trainees, this guy's good ya know? Plus he told me, but yeh lesson learned.

So I call my self quitting later on in the job bc of hometime and how they route to anywhere but my house going the opposite direction. I thought hey I am going to get me another job that pays alot more then sucky werner. Hey don't get me wrong the only best thing about them is they give you brand new trucks (giving at the right location) & their dedicated runs (if you know someone on the inside, don't get it through werner you'll be waiting forever) that plus trainer you can pull 1600.00 a week.

So I call up alot of companies one of them i really wanted was U.S. Express and guess what just bc of that truck accident with the toppped trailer and speeding ticket (11miles over 55[ohio]) they wouldn't hire me. I couldn't even get in with Swift. Swift said if that topped trailer accident cost more than 10,000 dollars they couldn't take me. They told me it was around 12,000.

I might as well have stayed with Werner but I didn't know. My license only said I had speeding ticket and that I paid, plus I had no points. I thought I was good. They must've looked on the DOT/MVR part. The Only company to take me was Gainey T.S. They said I would have a 6 month probation (safe driving for 6 months). My something happened in my 2 month but that's in another report.
