Books are double the price, and they charge you for nothing when you don't comply

Where do I begin when it comes to the University of Phoenix. I actually went to the school for two years and recieved a degree from them with nothing but problems along the way. Counselors never call you to remind you about important dates and deadlines. The communication between the school and students is probably the worst thing about the school.

For instance, a class that I was enrolled in about a year ago, some paperwork was needed and I had to fax them the paperwork. Well I did fax it to them twice and tried to call only to recieve a voice mail from the imaginary counselors there. I was expecting a call back of some sort to confirm that they in fact did recieve the fax so I could start the class. Nothing. I waited and waited for about a week only for the school to call and say I had been dropped from the course and moved back 3 weeks because I did not fax the paperwork. 2 Days later the school called and stated that in fact they did recieve the paperwork and that they messed up again, as usual. This is just one example of some of the daily things that I had to deal with in this school. What a headache! But then recently this one took the cake and I knew that I was being treated unfairly and was being taken advantage of. Your going to love this one!

In April I figured I wanted to enroll into a single course to kill some of my spare time. I am in the Marine Corps so I use Tuition Assistance to fund my classes. Now keep in mind I only recieve funding for my classes once I pass the entire class at the end. I have to use Tuition Assistance because I can not afford classes. I can barely afford their double priced books! Well anyways the class that I wanted to enroll in was Anatomy so I called and enrolled with a start date of 2 weeks from my call. Wow that was amazing I was in like that. I did all the paperwork on my end and everything. They sold me! All UOP employess are paid by the people they sign up because they are a private profit college. No questions asked I was in. Then the communication stopped again.

The first issue that I ran into was the price of the books. 175 dollars for one book which comes with access to an online lab using a code that comes with the book. I started to wonder what was going on when I could get the same book off the internet basically everywhere else for 70 dollars with the same code still brand new wrapped in plastic. Now keep in mind I can barely afford the 175 dollar book so I called the school to ask why their books were double the price. Counselor never returned the phone calls. So I did what anyone would do and bought the cheaper book and figured it would work right? Well 1st week of class rolls around and the book that I purchased was the same book but the code wouldn't work and I didn't know why.

I quickly called my counselor to see what was going on and they had no clue what the problem was. So I was forced to drop the class because I was already behind in the school work. I called the counselors, my instructor online and the book store to see what went wrong and no one knew anything. So I figured ok enroll me in the next course and I will try it again and maybe this time it will work.

1st week of class rolls around and nothing worked again. Well this time the book store finally had answers and said ok you need to purchase a code from us here at the school to access the online lab. Why? I already have one brand new. Why do I need to keep buying stuff only from your school? So I started emailing back and forth with other classmates and my instructors to try and figure out the problem that I was having. My question was is that why does only the double priced book from the school work on the online lab??? Why are they double the price? Well anyways what happened was all the emails in the classroom back and forth with other students and the instructors, now the school turns around and says they are going to charge me for the 1st week of participation in the class!!! I am not participating, I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my book, its the same thing, brand new! If you post a certain amount of emails in the class it counts for attendance for the week, so they turned around and charged me 240 dollars for one week of attendence when I did not even do any of the work. I was trying to figure out the problem. This whole time the counselors, my instructor, and even the book store knew that I was having problems with my book but they still turned around and charged me 240 dollars!!!

I begged and pleaded my case to the counselors and stated that i was being mistreated and they were not trying to help me out in any way. They responded with an email that said that I owed the money asap or it would be turned over to collections. They are going to try and ruin my credit for their lack of communication. Not one person from that school ever stated that you had to buy our books they are the only one that works. Their classes are double the price as it is, if I would have known that about the books I would have never enrolled. That is why they do not tell you that until it is to late. The are very good at what they do and they are trained to pray on people and not assist them like they should.

If there is anyone else out there that has been ripped off like me from UOP then I am sorry and I feel your pain. Hopefully it will be stopped soon.
