I noticed a charge from classiccloseouts.com on my account over the weekend. I have no idea how this occurred.
I have used classiccloseouts.com in the past - I ordered an item and it was received back in February. I haven't had a reason since then to shop with them.
It would have to be completely serendipitous for someone not only to find my CC numbers and use it, but from the same website I, five months earlier, ordered something.
In case this was an error on their end, I gave them the benefit of the doubt (while canceling my card, just in case) and tried to contact them directly through their contact form and from phone numbers I could find on the web and work with them to avoid filing and starting a potentially cumbersome dispute process.
If it was an error on their end they may be interested in the fact that this happened and would allow them to deduce that they probably have someone incompetent working for them and that that person should probably be either reprimanded or fired. I have seen cases in the past of companies charging former customers in error, but never one with non-existent customer service and a number that just rings and has no human answer, no answering service, no automated system.
Since I hadn't had a problem with them previously and that I only ordered from them on recommendation from a friend, I didn't check out their reputation online before my earlier purchase. After reading some of the horror stories, I'm thankful I didn't have a problem then. But considering this charge is for three times the amount of the item I previously ordered, it's a bit alarming.
So, this changes from a buyer beware to... Something completely different. If you are unlucky enough to have your card fraudulently used with this merchant, I wish you better success than I have had in resolving this matter in an efficient manner.
