We were scammed and tricked! We were contacted and asked to verify our company info for a free service that would attract more people to our website. We stated that if this was something that we would be charged for, we were not interested because we already had our own website. Without responding we were sent to a recording asking generic questions to answer and never heard anything else until we got our telephone bill with 2 charges amounting to $40 dollars. When we called to find out what the charges were for, we were played a recording of us answering very simple generic questions, but no recording of us telling them we were not interested if a fee was involved.
We tried to call the company through the number given, but were told they were not authorized to remove the current charge to our bill, but could cancel further billings. When we asked whom we could speak to that was authorized, they said there was no one. That they were just the customer service for hostawebsite.Biz and they did not have contact information for the person who would be authorized. Our only avenue was to contact our telephone service and have them block any third party billings.
This is ridiculous! It makes you afraid to answer the phone. You get these companies calling and asking you generic questions and you don't realize what they're doing until its too late! Do we just not answer the phone, or hang up on people we don't recognize? Something needs to be done!
