Direct TV service was purchased in February. The equipment was installed on a ground site. In April the foliage in the area came out. The signal to DTV failed over a 5 to 10 day period. Connections and receiver were confirmed, and the dish was checked. It was observed that the dish was installed aimed directly at 2 trees that have been in place for over 30 years. The equipment worked during the bare period but was completely obstructed with full foliage.
DTV was contacted. They stated that it's not always possible to tell if there are going to be obstructions and used ruses such as a new building and other issues. These trees were obvious, and the dish was aimed directly at them.
DTV offered a solution of a service repair plan to rectify the problem. The misinstallation was referenced as equipment failure that would be covered under such an extended warranty. Additionally, there was reference to a $79 service call, which if the extended plan were purchased would be offered this time for only $19.99.
There was obvious disregard, if not purposeful fault, in the installation of the equipment, and DTV proposes to solve the problem for a potential lifetime stream of income of $19.99 plus $5.99 per month.
It is an obvious fall-winter tactic that the installation be faulty and that the time available for rectification expires due to the lack of knowledge of the consumer and the lack of foliage to cause a problem. With the spring, the new stream of income comes into play.
