My wife and I joined DirectBuy in Spokane, WA in June. We went to their sales pitch and went through the showroom looking at the catalogs with the "great deals" they had to offer. I usually never make decisions that involve this type of money really quickly. ($4000) to join and $200 dollars a year after. We were told that if we did not make the decision "right now" we would loose the opportunity forever. They make you feel like you have top secret info when you are allowed to look at the price books and you might sell this info to the enemy if you don't join immediately.
Well I don't know about most of you but I was not prepared with price quotes for the different things we were looking to buy. We were building our home and a lot of the things they claimed we would save big on we were not ready for. Ie. Cabinets, furniture, flooring, lighting.
We went ahead and joined even though everything inside of us was screaming walk away. I was led to believe that we could pay for our membership with the savings of these big ticket items we would need in the near future. I was never informed about the 8% admin fee for every item I order until I tried to place my first order.
I went to the showroom and spent 8 or more hours researching some products I wanted, had to have "their" people phone the factory reps because we are not allowed to and play the 3 way conversation game when I had any technical questions. The fact that you have to wait for 6-8 most of the time 10 weeks to get your products was never talked about. I have been mis informed several times about shipping prices only to find out after they product arrives i need to pay more for shipping. I was told that the items could be shipped to my house (I live in Whitefish, MT) so I would not have to pay for shipping twice once to their locations and then onto mine. This has never been the case.
I have purchased cabinets, wood stove, windows, garage door, and a few boat toys over the last three years. I saved maybe 10% over what I could have bought if for locally but I spent hundreds of hours and waited 8 - 10 weeks to get the items making major delays in my home project. I also need to tell you there are NO REFUNDS once you have bought in. I tried to get my money back to no avail. The amount of hassle every time I ordered and the hidden fees and the hours of time researching the products I am not willing to say this is a good deal, this is a ripoff my advice is "Run Forrest RUN". I was duped. The only thing they do well at is selling you a line of BS.
I was furious at my self for spending the $4000 to join therefore making it my mission in life to recover my money before my three years were up into my initial initiation and I have to renew my membership. I guarantee I will NOT be paying them any more money to keep it.
This group does not represent the spirit of America, they have the slick snake oil salesmen approach to business. If you have nothing but time and I mean a lot of it then maybe you might enjoy this merry go round. For my wife and I we are getting off and never riding again.
