On the advice of my state's AG, and phone numbers provided, I started to persue info about NEL on 4-10-08:
*AG of state of NY... Gave me tel. No. For the BBB of NY.
* BBB of NY did not have NLS as a member... Gave me tel. No. For NY State Consumer Affairs.
* NY Consumer of Affairs couldn't help as it was a business-to-business matter! (Isn't a business a consumer?) Gave me the tel. No. For NY Consumer
Complaints.
*Blanche (Consumer Complaints) offered to send me a complaint form, but didn't give me any hope, there. Will see if I receive a complaint form.
* Blanche (Consumer Complaints) gave my tel. No. To her supervisor, Ms. Jones.
*Ms Jones called me. Their dept. Probably impotent, too.
*Ms. Jones gave me tel. No. For NY State Dept of Banking.
*NY Dept of Banking of no help but suggested he Div. Of Corporations and the NY Div. Of Criminal Investigation.
On 4-11-08 I called:
*Div of Corp confirmed that NLS was inc.in 1991, in NY and active.
I was patched thru to the Summons Dept. To leave a voice-mail inquiry as to whether or not there were any summonses out on this co.
*At this point, from somewhere, an automated message referred me to a website of www.dos. State. Ny.Us (Dept of State)
*Div of Criminal Investigation person was very friendly and accomodating, but of no help as they have no jurisdiction if the co. Isn't a bank.
*He did suggest that I call the New York County DA to see if there were any Class Action Suits on file... But he didn't have a tel no.
*So I have to wait until 4-14-08 (a Monday) to call my AG for the NY Cty DA's tel no.
*My AG is only in until noon M - Th... But they have always accomodated me and helped resolve other consumer problems for me.
*So far, my AG has no jurisdiction over the state of NY.
*We are looking for ways to protect ourselves once NLS discovers that we will not pay any more hidden fees. We cannot afford a lawyer.
*We will keep you updated.
