On April 1 My mother received a letter in the mail from Riddle and Associates stating that they are writing for Afni Collection Agency. They state that she needs to send payment of $439 asap. The supposive $439 my mother owes is from Cingular back in funny thing is. She's never had a cingular phone, any cell phone for that matter..
I have run into a simular scam a month ago, and since I am schooling to be a Private Investigator i decided to put my skills to use.
When my mother called me, she was very upset because when she called the number Riddle and Associates told her to contact them at, she argued with them that there was absolutely no way this could be true, the lady then started yelling at her telling her "your identity must have been stole then, pay the amount and we'll leave you alone".
There is no website for this Riddle and Associates in Sandy, UT, there are however tons and tons of addresses for this company, but none of them are legit.
If you get this letter or one like it, IT IS A SCAM, do not put your health at risk getting upset over this and do not send payment to this company. I am in process of making a criminal report out with the UTAH BBB, they will investigate this and hopefully catch these scam artist. I have also contacted a friend that works with a local Television Station here in Northern Alabama, they are going to run a story on this scam, so that others like my mother don't fall for this. Please read your mail carefully, I recieved a $5000 check in the mail a month ago telling me that I was approved for a home loan, when i Googled the company on the check, he said just that morning he had already recieved 250 calls from people who had recieved these scam checks, to please dispose of them, that the FBI was already investigating it. 100 people took them checks and cashed them because they knew no different, and everyone of them got messed over. What is this country coming too, when a scam artist sends a family whom has no money a check telling them it's theirs, go cash it. What will this family do, there gonna cash it because there kids need to eat or need clothes on there bodies. Who suffers from these sensless scams? These inocent families do.
