We received a proposal from Dan who was recommended by my neighbor. He always showed up on time when a deposit was due. He did very little work other than cashing the checks. I trusted his excuses at the beginning for not getting much work done because he knew and worked with my neighbor. The thought to research DS Construction never was even a thought. Dan started our deck in October. Today, I have an unsafe site with exposed beams.
He kept telling me he would be done in a week. He had every excuse even a death in the family. His story now is that he had to sue a lady he was working on her house and has drained his bank account. He told me he had to sell a lot he owned out of state. He has applied for loans with the bank and promises me he will finish my deck before spring. When Dan does call it is very early and always gets directly to my voicemail and never answers his home or cell phone.
Every message is about his hardship. And a promise to show up next week. Next week comes and goes with not a sight of Dan.
I was told the materials were ordered but then Dan did not have the balance so the lumber yard sold it. Hey Dan, that deposit is my hard earned money. I was recently told he had another $3000.00 down for deposit and is waiting for his loan. Hey Dan, why do you need a loan for my stuff, I gave you my money. Hey Dan, if you take peoples money and do the job you've contracted, you would have your money and I would have my deck. I have an unsafe situation in my yard. Dan has told me he has a house in Mexico worth $900.000.00 and a big house in Howell with a Mercedes, a big work truck and a chopper motorcycle. Hey Lawyers out there, this is an easy one.
