We purchased a beautiful kitten from Ms. Milhorn in August. I had it Vet checked within 48 hours as our contract stated. The vet noticed some ear problem he identified as yeast fungus and medicated. He did not check for ringworm. So. We left without a diagnosis of ringworm. Our vet did not even have a woods light.
After two more visits to that office and a referral to another vet clinic we had ringworm from head to toe! It was so bad the vets at the clinic said they had never seen a cat so bad! Needless to say at least half our family has contracted it over the months to come.
I disenfect our home with bleach, Chlorhexidine, and anything else that science indicates helps. The cat has been shaved three times and dipped in lime-sulfur repeatedly as well as bathed in every shampoo concoction that is out there to combat ringworm. We have also resorted to oral meds which are very risky.
I feel for those people that have experienced this situation from this cattery. We love the kitten or we would have put her down. She is now 8 months old and we just had her spayed. Her immune system has been so taxed by her problems that we had to wait for the spaying until this late date.
As a resident of WV I have contacted county and state agencies to try to stop this cattery from continued spread of ringworm. Sadly there is not much that can be done! To date, we have over 2,000 dollars in vet bills spent for ringworm in this sweet little kitten.
