Don't be fooled by this company and what they're telling you

Reading all these horror stories about Marketing Sessions made me wish I had never found that job posting that, even though I was only there for a couple of days, lead to one of the worst experiences of my life. Had I known these stories about the company before I went in for an interview, I would've never gone. I hope that others seeking employment will read my story and the others before they consider working for Marketing Sessions.

After I took the job, I found myself having to come in every morning at 8am in order to play Pictionary and hear a bunch of useless motivational stories like the founder of Samuel Adams who went around bars selling his beer leading him to the success that he is today in hopes of inspiring us to work hard and some day we can experience the same success.

When we finally were able to leave, Tony (the man that was training me) and I had to drive out to some location going door-to-door of every business in a neighborhood asking them if they would let us adjust there phone bills to save them money. I felt bad going from business to business bothering all the owners and there employees during work and I suddenly realized this was not an inside sales job as said on there job posting.

I asked Tony questions about what exactly we were doing for the owners and how we were helping them save money but never got a legitimate answer, just that we can lower there bills since we are going door-to-door and having actual contact with them as opposed to online or over the phone. I wasn't sure if he was lying to me and we were doing something sketchy or illegal or he was just dumb and didn't know what we were doing for them. One occasion led me to believe that there might've been something shady going on as we went into one business establishment and the owner wanted to see Tony's badge that said Marketing Sessions as opposed to AT&T, as he had said when we entered the business. Anthony and I quickly left the establishment when the owner wanted to call someone from AT&T to confirm who we were.

After we left, I had asked Anthony what had happened. He told me that we shouldn't bother wasting our time with her when we can see more people even though I was actually asking why we couldn't respond to her suspicion about who we were.

Another day, we were in a completely different area that did not seem so friendly and there were times when I actually feared for my safety. The job itself was awful. We walked around all day in the heat, without stopping for lunch or even a break. Bothering businesses and owners questioning our legitimacy all day was embarrassing. Having to sit in traffic just to get back to the office wasn't fun either.

It was still awful even when we got back to the office. We had to finish the app forms and then came the scary, loud-blasting, heavy-metal music accompanied by the ringing of the bell or shaking of the water cooler filled with coins depending on how many sales they made. I was never told when I would get paid or how much I would make depending on how many sales I made. Tony told me on our interview/observation that with hard work, I could easily make $900 to $1000 a week.

Funny how someone who could make that much a week told me that he lives with his parents to save money. When we were done there, I finally got to go home well past 7pm. At least there was no traffic then.

So to anyone looking to work at Marketing Sessions, look somewhere else. There is always going to be something better out there for you than this job. A little while after I quit, I found a real job that's salaried, has a future, isn't dishonest, and I know is certainly not sketchy or possibly illegal. And Tony kept playing his band's music in his car, and it might've been the worst part of the whole experience.
