I had credit with Sears for over 30 years. It was a great company until Citi Bank bought them out and took over their credit business. It has never been the same since.
I paid my account off in full. The bill they mailed me showed a balance of $11,725.25. I paid with a cashier's check, and on the check I wrote to pay off and close out my account. They kept my check, which means they agreed that I paid in full.
A few days later, they tried to tell me I owed them a lot more interest and sent me a bill for $157.00. I called them right away and told them I no longer had an account with Citi-Sears, since it had been closed a month earlier. I even asked that if I paid this unfair charge of $157.00, would they just leave me alone. The lady said no, I would get another bill the next month. That made me very mad. I told them I was not paying them any more money because I did not owe them anything at all.
So now they have messed up my perfect credit record with a lie and are turning it over to a collection company. Does any reader out there have a suggestion for what I could do?
The big fish banking Wal-Mart might think they can walk all over us middle class people. It is just not right. I think Citi would have been happier if I had taken bankruptcy on them.
