Property taxes—the billion dollar heist on long island—school district taxes

The Selling Price of SOMEONE ELSE'S HOME becomes YOUR home's value and is then taxed on that same value according to the County Assessor and the State of New York. It is known as the "Comparable Property".

YOUR School District Taxes are based on that value, even though the "Comparable Property" selected may be in another school district (tax district).

Using the "Selling Price" of residential property as is presently done, via the "Comparable Property" that was most recently sold is really theft of your money, the ONE property "sold" becomes the "STANDARD' to use for tax evaluation and therefore taxes for many or perhaps hundreds of property owners.
In effect, for each property actually sold there are many more NOT SOLD that are taxed at the most recent "Selling Price".

This method of taxation has become a "CASH COW" waiting to be milked by the School Districts. So they developed a "wish list". There is no real name for it, but they seem to always find some excuse for spending additional money, YOUR MONEY. Every time a new budget is written they (the Board of Education) just adds one of the items from the "wish" list to make the purchase. There goes YOUR money, with no oversight by the public. The next year, the same thing.
The Educators haven't learned what they preach. You don't spend Other Peoples Money ON ANYTHING unless you have their permission, specific permission, that's called STEALING.

I know of one School District with nearly 8,000 students that has departments that prepare "Public Relations" and "Advertising" materials for the district with the present budget of more than $450,000. Dollars. That does not include any media material, (paper, printing, video tapes, postage, etc.)
They publish materials via the 7 color process, known as rotogravure.

Public School Districts have no necessity to recruit home buyers and School Districts are only open to taxpayers of that School District therefore an Advertising and Public Relations Department are totally uncalled for and a waste of tax dollars.

With 56 school districts on long island a billion dollars adds up very quickly.

This writer (retired) is paying $6,000. Yearly JUST in School Taxes.
