College Grads Beware... Deceptive Interviews, Unethical Recruiting CPG = Norristown, Lotus = New Brunswick, Pennsylvania

I made the unfortunate mistake of falling into this marketing scheme TWICE. The first establishment I interviewed at was called Choice Promotional Group, located in Norristown, PA. The head honcho there, a young guy named Josh, interviewed me and told me the remarkable career I would have in sports advertising if I were accepted into CPG's highly competitive program. I was so psyched, especially when he told me that I would know by the end of the day whether or not he was going to invite me back for a 2nd interview.

When the call came several hours later, I was overjoyed. I went in to my second interview, and everything went down hill. For starters, conveniently left out of the first interview was the phrase "door to door sales", which, as I discovered, was the premise of this "marketing firm". The job consisted of selling minor league baseball ticketing packages door to door in a low income residential area of Delaware. I felt like apologizing to every home we visited, especially when we visited them at dinner time, a tactic my interviewer described as "the money loop" because this is when most of the residents are home from work.

The day began at 10 AM and ended at 11 PM. At the end of this miserable day, I was told that my resume was weak and I had no experience (I casually reminded them that I wasn't aware that experience was necessary for an entry level job) BUT Josh was willing to make an exception with me because he saw something special. What I saw was a pyrmiad scheme, however, and consequently I politely told Josh and his cohorts thanks, but no thanks.

A week later I interviewed at a place called the Lotus Association, in New Brunswick, NJ. The process began much the same way as CPG did, only this time I was already in the car when the words "door to door" were uttered. This business involved TRICKING local businesses into switching their phone service from whatever they were using to Verizon through a process of slick talking and bold face lies. I couldn't believe I fell for this AGAIN.

The bottom line here is that these places are trying to dupe you. They promise you 6 figure salaries your 2nd year, so long as you work hard during your starting months. Keep in mind that you work off commission and have no guarenteed anything once you join up with them. These recruiting tactics (especially the VAST lack of consistency in what is said in the 1st interview and what actually happens in the second interview) are highly unethical and speak to the character of the individuals representing these scams. New college grads beware, PLEASE learn from my mistakes, and don't waste your time. Good luck with your job searches!
