My wife and I joined Uniway January 25. We read the fine print in the contract and noticed that it said we had three days to cancel if we wanted a full refund ($3,000.00 membership fee). We were a bit skeptical and decided to tell the store manager/president, that we wanted to cancel because that wasn't enough time to give us to try out the services. He reassured us that we would get our moneys worth in savings and there would be no problems, he even said that he would give us extra time to try out the services. So, we decided to stick with it and we went ahead paid the full membership fee and ordered $1200.00 in furniture as well.

Upon ordering the furniture, the receipt stated that it would take 8-12 weeks to receive the furniture, which gave it a due date of May 3. From late February, all the way up to the due day, I called and left messages with the floor manager (whom majority of the time never answered the phone or returned messages) to check the status of my order. As a result of this poor customer service I waited patiently until the due day (May 3) to call again only to talk to the floor manager about my order and for him not to call back. So, after work, I visited Uniway to see exactly what was going on with my order and no one could tell me the status at this time. I spoke with the floor manager and he said that the company in which the furniture was ordered through, was not returning his faxes or phone calls. Upset and feeling ripped off, I told him that I wanted to speak to the president about this issue, and so I did. He told me how I was over reacting and I should just give them more time to find out what was going on. I explained to him how my wife and I had paid our membership fee ($3,000.00) promptly, and waited 12 weeks for furniture ($1,200.00) only to be told that I was over-reacting. I asked him for a full refund on the furniture and membership fee. He said that he had to find out whether or not the furniture had even been shipped yet and if it hadn't, then he could refund me the furniture costs. I re-emphasized that I wanted the membership fee back as well and he replied that he was not going to give it back, because Uniway had not wronged me.

I left the store and the next week explained this to Capt. Scott (Airforce legal attorney). He contacted the president, and the following week of May 14, Uniway contacted me, to let me know my couch order was cancelled and a $1,100.00 check was waiting at the front desk. I cashed this check and it bounced, so I called Uniway once again to inform them of this matter and the president re-issued me another ($1,100.00) check on May 20. The computer desk that I ordered through Uniway, finally arrived after 15 weeks of waiting. I've recently learned that there are numerous horror stories and complaints on Uniway. I'm fairly new to the area and I just happen to be another victim of Uniway's scams.
