I was approached by 2 Italian men, one speaking broken English with name of Enzo, desparately needing help to pay for rental car to return to Italy from San Francisco. Coming from show in San Francisco and Santa Clara with unsold Armani (RGA) jackets and needing about 650.00. Lost several thousand in local casino. Showed some Euros and dollars as all he has left, plus rental agreement plus passport, business card, etc.
Offers to give/sell me 6 leather, llama skin, etc. Jackets valued at $1000 for 650. I said I could only get 300 from ATM, so he wanted to come with me to see if I could get more if I tried. But he finally relented to accept 300.
After a lot of blah, blah, trying on jackets, getting clearance from wife by phone (which really fried him that I wasn't man enough to decide myself.) I went to nearby ATM without him and returned with 300.00. He then put 3 jackets in my car, to which I objected as not the deal, so in disgust he put the remaining 3 in the car and drove off quickly.
I then (THEN, not when talking to wife earlier) had her check RGA Armani and pulled up this complaint... The good news... I consulted with wife prior to deal to avoid embarassment later and the jackets all seem very nice and probably worth more than 50 each, so I have some cheapy but good gifts.
The bad news is that this guys story is very good, I generally fell for it and once again continue to not have faith in Italians (for lots and lots of world travel, only in Italy have we been robbed and also paid hundreds of dollars for an overseas phone call!)
